Crystal Healing

Crystal healing information on this page:

Learn how crystals and gemstones enhance healing, healing properties of gemstones and crystals, cleansing and proper care of gemstones and crystals, charging and proper care of gemstones and crystals.

“There is much to be said about healing with crystals. I generally use four crystals on the client in healing in addition to the ones I wear which is an amethyst and rosy quartz. I put a rosy quartz in the left hand (heart meridian) of the patient and a large clear quartz in the right hand. These soak up DOR (dead orgone energy) that is released in the healing. I use a large amethyst with iron deposits in it on the second or first chakra’s to keep the patient’s field pulsating strongly. The crystals tend to hold the patient in the body. A smoky quartz at the solar plexus is also good for this.” Barbara Ann Brennan, excerpt from her book, Hands of Light.

Crystal healing (or the use of crystals during a healing session) enhances and accelerates the healing process. There are basic qualities of crystals that can help to explain and unravel the truth behind the previous statement.

The three essential qualities of crystals are: they are subtle energy condensers, they are programmable, and they can activate the chakras. As a subtle energy condenser, crystals are able to absorb, store, project and focus subtle energies much like a rechargeable battery.

Crystals can be “programmed” to the healer’s task by the mere power of intention. If the crystal is to be used to absorb subtle energy the healer would simply affirm that purpose either mentally or vocally, “absorb subtle energy”, or “absorb excess chi or prana”, or whatever word you choose to define subtle energy. Similarly, if the healer wanted to emit or project subtle energy through the crystal, the healer would affirm that.

Finally, a crystal can activate a chakra when it is placed on it, causing the chakra to rotate, become bigger, and also more energetic. I believe that the reason crystals enhance the healing energy in a session is because they help to raise the healer’s vibration to a higher level, which subsequently causes the client to entrain to the healer’s vibration culminating into health and wholeness in the patient’s body.

In terms of cooking, crystal healing can be likened to the use of butter or sour cream on top of a baked potato. The potato is fine without them, but the use of butter or sour cream makes the potato even that more palatable. The same principle applies to the use of crystals in a healing session. The practitioner could get by without their use by using another method to raise their healing vibration to cause the patient’s body to shift (entrain) to wholeness and still have very effective results. The use of crystals, however, can help to shorten this process considerably. Crystal healing is therefore quite useful for an energy healing practitioner.

The Healing Properties of Crystals & Gemstones

Although commonly associated with quartz crystal, the word ‘crystal’ is often used interchangeably to describe any gemstone, precious stone, or semi-precious stone. Below you can find a simple description of their use as applied to holistic health and healing.

  • Use red gemstones for stimulating and strengthening.
  • Use blue gemstones for grounding and projecting energy.
  • Use green gemstones for balancing and general healing.
  • Use white or clear gemstones for purification.
  • Use orange gemstones for activating or constructing.
  • Use yellow gemstones for awakening and energizing.
  • Use pink gemstones for nurturing and comfort.
You can find a comprehensive list of these gemstones and their uses in D.J. Conway’s book Laying on Of Stones, or the book Crystal Enlightenment: The Transforming Properties of Crystals and Healing Stones, These two books are really great references and are packed with relevant information about crystal healing, gemstones and their uses in a healing session.

Proper Care of Crystals and Gemstones

Crystals used during crystal healing work crystals (and gemstones as well) should be cleansed on a regular basis – preferably immediately after their use.

To cleanse your crystals and gemstones you can wash them with spring water, bury them in a dish of sea salt, or let them sit in the full sun, moon light. I discourage the use of salt water to perform cleansing as salt is not beneficial to some gemstones and crystals and can ruin them.

My favorite way to cleanse crystals and/or gemstones is to place them in a small copper dish (copper conducts energy) and place the dish on my windowsill to catch direct sunlight. I also like to cover my crystals in a bowl of sea salt and place them on my windowsill on the night of a full moon. You don't need to be elaborate; a few hours in the sun works just fine.
